The Ford Edge was a fairly reliable vehicle throughout the years, and with the right maintenance you could even get it to go well into the hundreds of thousands of miles. While it has incredible longevity, it still had some issues through the years that you should know if you decide to get an Edge. The issues are with the airbags, brake booster, AC, windshield, and transmission failures.
Taking a deeper dive into the issues will reveal that not all of the problems are present on the same year model, but these problems should be dealt with before they become larger problems. The first issue we’ll look at is the airbag. This was present with the 2016 and 2017 models. If engaged there is a chance that the airbags wouldn’t fully inflate, and sometimes may detach from the assembly. This prompted Ford to state that you can “have it repaired at no cost to you by a Ford Dealer.” So any you buy should have had that problem remedied.
The faulty brake booster was a problem that was present for almost a decade. If the Edge had this problem present, you’d notice that when you stepped on the brakes you’d hear a hissing sound. While annoying at first, over time it would affect brake function.
Jumping ahead to the issues with the transmission. This issue was a problem mainly with older models that were produced in 2007 and 2008. When this issue happened it would cause the transmission to stop working, even if the vehicle was in motion.
Going back to the AC and windshield issues, they may go hand in hand depending on your area. If you’re from Florida like us at Karl Flammer, both of these issues would be a nightmare. While these issues are more than a decade old and not prevalent on newer models, there is a year where they overlapped, and that’s the 2011 model. The AC would sometimes malfunction causing the vehicle to blow hot air, and on already sweltering days, that’s going to be uncomfortable. The windshield seal was also faulty, letting water enter the vehicle, potentially leading to further issues if gone unchecked. Pair both of these issues together in the state of Florida, they need to be fixed fast.
