The 2023 Ford F-150 has finally arrived, and the latest edition of this bestselling light-duty truck is more capable than ever. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know before you start building yours.
While the F-150 isn’t getting a full redesign, there are some exciting new developments for 2023. The new Rattler package, available for the base F-150 XL model, adds a long list of rugged gear to create a very inexpensive off-roader. Then there’s the new Raptor R model, which adds to the Raptor’s desert-racing equipment with a supercharged V8 engine rated for 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque.
As per usual, this truck is very versatile. The three cabin options — regular, extended SuperCab, and SuperCrew — will impress you with their roomy, supportive seating. The SuperCab and SuperCrew offer backseat space for your loved ones (or work crew), and the latter supplies maximum rear-seat legroom. Depending on which F-150 trim model and cabin you select, there are three bed sizes: 5.5 feet, 6.5 feet, and 8 feet.
Then there are six main trim models, not including the off-road-ready Raptor and Raptor R. The entry-level F-150 XL has all the basics, such as air conditioning, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Forward collision mitigation is also a standard feature, helping you avoid needless accidents. The mid grade XLT adds more modern amenities, such as carpeted flooring, power windows and door locks, and foglights. The XLT also upgrades your safety with extra aids, including blind-spot monitoring and lane keeping assist.
For luxury, check out the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited models. The Lariat gives you a great deal of upscale features, including leather upholstery and LED bed lighting. The King Ranch has its own aesthetic, with Western-style Del Rio leather upholstery. It also adds heated rear seats, wireless smartphone charging, and an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The Platinum is as luxurious as the King Ranch, but it has a style of its own, with a posher vibe. At the top of the trim ladder, there’s the Limited. With its two-panel moonroof, power running boards, and massaging front seats, it seems there’s no luxury the Limited leaves off its lineup.
Just like its competitors, the F-150 offers a variety of trim levels, which in turn provide increasing levels of luxury. A few of the F-150’s upscale offerings include a two-panel moonroof, heated and ventilated front seats with massage settings, various shades of leather upholstery, and power running boards.
But the F-150 is also home to a wide range of innovative features designed to accommodate your workday. The Pro Power Onboard station is a great example. Available with three power ratings — 2 kW, 2.4 kW, and 7.2 kW — this mobile generator allows you to use or charge devices, via household-style electrical plugs in the truck bed.
The BlueCruise system is another recent development. It’s Ford’s hands-free driving system, which works on thousands of miles of pre-mapped divided highways throughout North America. You can get it via the Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 package, which happens to be standard on the Limited trim model.
