The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is on its way to a dealership near you. Before you order yours, let’s take a look at everything that Ford’s light-duty EV truck delivers.
The 2023 F-150 Lightning is the EV version of Ford’s best selling light-duty truck. Running on battery power alone, this pickup can tow and haul major weight. With the standard battery pack, max payloads reach up to 2,235 pounds. (With the heftier extended battery, payloads are reduced slightly, to 1,850 pounds.) And Ford’s new EV truck can also move a pretty big trailer, which is good news for boat owners.
All four F-150 Lighting trim models will speak to you with their roomy crew cabins and tech-heavy standard lineup. But moving up the trim model hierarchy — which includes the Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum models — will net you a longer list of comforts and conveniences. Choosing the right trim model for your lifestyle is really more about what you want (and how much you want to spend) than anything else!
Pro
The entry-level Pro model treats you to impressive comfort (with dual-zone automatic climate control), lots of smartphone-friendly infotainment, and safety features designed to help you detect danger.
XLT
Upgrade to the XLT for cloth seats and a little extra panache, with a power-adjustable driver’s seat and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Lariat
This is a luxurious option, thanks to its leather upholstery and available twin-panel panoramic moonroof.
Platinum
This F-150 Lighting is even more luxurious than the rest, with exclusive features like upgraded leather upholstery and an 18-speaker B&O premium sound system.
Because the F-150 Lightning has a few different battery and drivetrain options, its tow ratings vary a little bit according to the powertrain you select. When you choose the Pro, XLT, or Lariat, your F-150 Lightning comes standard with a 98-kWh battery pack with a 230-mile range. It delivers a powerful ride, with the equivalent of 452 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. With this battery, the F-150 Lightning can tow up to 7,700 pounds.
For a longer range, get your hands on the extended-range battery pack, which is rated for 320 miles. This pack is optional for the XLT and Lariat, and standard on the Platinum. The extended-range battery produces more power, with 580 horses and 775 pound-feet of torque. Properly equipped, F-150 Lightnings with the extended battery can tow the max rating of 10,000 pounds.
